Chris(trb & tuba)leads his group on mostly lush slow ballads, etc. Stuff that you would love to play at the end of your program after you had exhausted all the fast material. Cut #10 has a wonderful tuba solo. Post bop.
Live performance in The Cellar Restaurant, Vancouver, BC which Weeds owns on the label he owns. Reminds me of 60s-70s small ensembles driven by Hammond B-3 & horn section w/some funky edges on several cuts. Pedestrian at best. Joey DeFrancesco worth the entry fee for old time's sake.
Veteran bassist on 11th recording as a leader. Plays three different basses here w/a tinge of fusion & Indian tones on the electric ones.
Hadley(ts) now in his mid-70s w/his first recording in 30 yrs. Has been very busy gigging in the Seattle area for many years. He puts out a sold polished sound in the classic saxophone mode. Thomas Marriott(tp) is also the producer.
Chicago based pianist's take on Latin jazz. Crisp playing, driving energy & quietly lyrical at times. Howard Levy's playing on harmonica a nice touch.
Paquito D'Rivera present Brown, a gifted composer/pianist, in his debut album. All compositions by Brown except #4 & #9. Impressive playing & well-crafted music.
Gentle & whimsical feel to many of the cuts. Several cuts have a Brazilian tinge hence the title. She has a rare style & has made good choices of songs.
